southern california
Our stretch. Crystal Cove and the Newport coves for calm mornings, Coronado for wide flat sand, La Jolla for the cove and the sea lions. Warm enough to swim most of the year, easy enough to do on a Saturday.
central and north
Big Sur for the drama, Santa Cruz for the surf, and the rugged coves up toward Mendocino where the water is cold and clear and the crowds thin out. Bring a layer; the north coast keeps its sweaters on.
